Our All-Inclusive Experts have stayed at Sandals Royal Barbados multiple times, and today Matt G is sharing an up-close look at one of the most premium butler suites at the resort. Watch his walkthrough video here, then read his honest review of the Beachfront One Bedroom Skypool Butler Suite (room code BSKY). You can also ask him questions directly!
The BSKY is one of the most premium butler suites at Sandals Royal Barbados, sitting on the third through fifth floors of the Stargazer building. The defining feature is a private balcony Sky Pool with an infinity edge that overlooks the beach and the Caribbean. The suite also includes a balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub for two, a separate living room with butler pantry and premium bar, a Carrara marble bathroom with a freestanding bathtub, and floor-to-ceiling views throughout. Butler Elite service 24/7, private Rolls-Royce airport transfers, and VIP check-in are all included.
Sandals Royal Barbados is right next door to Sandals Barbados, and one stay gets you access to both resorts. That’s 20 restaurants, 14 bars, and 11 pools across the two properties, plus a bowling alley, a craft beer bar with 19 international beers, and the largest glass-fronted infinity pool in the Eastern Caribbean. Have more questions? There’s no cost to work with us at Creative Travel Brands, we can even keep an eye on the price after you book, and if a lower rate becomes available we’ll work to get it for you. Read on for Matt’s full review of the BSKY room below.
With nearly 30 years working in the travel industry, Matt has seen it all and knows what to look for in an all-inclusive resort. He doesn’t hold back when writing reviews of the rooms he stays in (and he has stayed in a lot of them!). All so he can best advise his clients to help make their trips memorable. The walkthrough video above is from one of his recent stays at Sandals Royal Barbados. The review below is his honest take on the Sandals Royal Barbados Beachfront One Bedroom Skypool Butler Suite.
Where exactly is this suite located, and what’s the location like?
Matt G: The Sky Pool Suites are on the top floors of the Stargazer building. They’re beachfront and oceanfront butler suites, sitting just a few steps from the largest glass-fronted infinity pool in the entire Eastern Caribbean. Exit the building and you’re at the infinity pool. A few more steps and you’re in the sand. A handful more and you’re in the ocean. These suites basically couldn’t be in a better location.
What’s nearby?
Matt G: The Aqua Center is right there on the beach, and the restaurants and entertainment are all close by and easy to get to from the Stargazer building. The suite is private but you’re never far from anything. One thing worth knowing is that the Stargazer building is adjacent to Sandals Barbados, the next-door resort. You can walk about 60 seconds and you’re at another full Sandals resort with another set of restaurants, pools, and bars open to you. There are no annoying wristbands or check-ins between the two, you can just walk over.
How does the room feel inside?
Matt G: When you enter, you first see a butler’s pantry and wetbar area, and then you walk into the large living space that’s separate from the bedroom. The room is modern, with plush couches and chairs, a table for in-room dining, and a large smart flat-screen TV. There’s a stocked mini-fridge where you can ask for whatever drinks you prefer, and an in-room bar with premium liquors, beer, and wine. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors lead out to a large balcony, and there are sheer curtains plus blackout curtains if you want to take a nap or have more privacy.
What about the bedroom?
Matt G: The bedroom is separate from the living room and has a king-size bed, a dresser, and a desk. There’s another floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door from the bedroom that leads out to the extended balcony. It’s very spacious you definitely feel like you’re in a big suite as opposed to a hotel room.
And the bathroom?
Matt G: The bathroom is gorgeous. Spa-like. Large soaking tub, a separate shower and a separate toilet area, a white quartz vanity, and a big closet with a safe.
What’s the Sky Pool like, and the balcony?
Matt G: The Sky Pool is obviously the main feature of the suite. It’s a private infinity pool that overlooks the ocean and beach. At night you can soak and watch the stars. There are lights you can turn on or leave off. During the day you have the blue water of the Caribbean stretching out in front of you. Very few rooms in the Sandals portfolio have a private pool like this one. It’s kind of a once in a lifetime experience, something you’ll never forget, I highly recommend splurging for it at least once for a special occasion.
Is there more room out there or does the pool take up most of the balcony?
Matt G: The balcony is extended along the suite so there’s a bedroom entrance and a living room entrance. There’s plenty more room if you want to eat out there or just hang out… there’s chairs… a padded lounge chair for two, obviously the Tranquility Soaking Tub for two which the butlers sometimes fill up for you and decorate with rose pedals. A table, and privacy curtains around the tub and other portions. The curtains are also nice for shade depending on the time of day and where the sun is. You should have your butler bring you breakfast out here at least once, sometimes we’ll eat on the patio at least once or twice a day. If you don’t have a romantic dinner on the balcony, you should have breakfast delivered. You could have it delivered every day if you wanted.
Speaking of butler service, how does that work in this suite?
Matt G: The suite comes with Butler Elite service 24/7. You’ll be assigned at least two butlers a day, and they’ll meet you at or right after check-in. They give you a cell phone that you can take wherever on the resort, which is the easiest way to contact them with any requests during your stay. We recommend filling out the butler preferences form through us or online before you arrive. You’ll be asked about food preferences, allergies, restaurant reservations, activities, and arrival assistance like unpacking if you want that. Once they meet you, they’ll review your plans and figure out how they can help. That includes things like restaurant reservations, beach and pool days, and special-occasion arrangements like a romantic dinner on the balcony. In high season it can be hard to find an open palapas with shade, but they take care of that for you. Your spot gets reserved with a drink cooler holding your favorite drinks. I know this all sounds structured but if you just want to keep things flexible they are fine with that too. Just try to give them a heads up on where you want to be and when as you go through your trip, that’ll help you get the most out of it.
Any tips on tipping?
Matt G: Tipping isn’t allowed at Sandals except for butlers, spa staff, airport luggage handlers, off-resort transfer drivers, and resort guides. Butlers pretty much make their living from tips, and they’re worth it. We keep track of their names and take care of them before we leave. Our travel advisors can advise you more on the details and how much to tip the butlers.
Tell us about the Rolls-Royce transfer and check-in.
Matt G: The stay really starts at the airport. The Rolls-Royce Ghost transfer is included with this suite both directions. Most of us don’t own a Rolls-Royce Ghost, so this is a fun part of the experience. The seats give you a massage, and the ride from the airport to the resort is only about 15 minutes, which honestly feels too short. My wife and I won’t forget that ride. Just an ultra premium rare car that hardly anyone ever gets to see let alone ride in. Super cool experience. Once you get to the resort, VIP check-in is included with this category, so the process from arrival to your suite is fast. Your butlers will meet you at or right after check-in to get you settled.
Where does this suite fall in price at Sandals Royal Barbados?
Matt G: This is among the most expensive suites at Sandals Royal Barbados, trading the top spot with the Beachfront Prime Minister One Bedroom Butler Suite (B1PP) depending on dates and promotions. It does go on promotion occasionally, but rarely, and it sells out quite often. The views, the Sky Pool, the food, and the location make it more than worth it though. At the time I’m writing this review, available rates are running roughly $2,630 to $3,175 per night for a couple, with holiday dates like Christmas being the top of that range.
What makes Sandals Royal Barbados itself special?
Matt G: The big one is that you really get two resorts in one. When you stay at Sandals Royal Barbados, you also have access to all the amenities of the adjacent Sandals Barbados Resort. The Stargazer building is right next door to Sandals Barbados, so you can walk about 60 seconds and you’re at another full Sandals resort with another set of restaurants, pools, and bars open to you. No wristbands, no check-ins between the two. Combine them and you get 20 restaurants, 14 bars, 11 freshwater pools, 6 whirlpools, and one pool for scuba training. There’s daily entertainment at the active pools and nightly entertainment both indoors and outdoors. Wi-Fi is throughout the resort and in every guest room.
What about the beach?
Matt G: The white sand beach is gorgeous, wide and spacious. You can take a long walk down the beach with very little foot traffic. That was one of the highlights for us. My wife and I like to walk the beach every morning, it’s a great way to start the day and this beach is perfect for it.
What’s the food like at Sandals Royal Barbados? Favorite Restaurant?
Matt G: Favorite restaurants really depend on who you are. My favorite is Schooners, an outdoor restaurant. The seafood there was so good that we took a minute to thank Mario, the chef. Butch’s Steak and Seafood was very good too. My favorite dish there is the surf and turf with the filet mignon. I’m a bit of a meat eater and maybe a little basic with my food selections, but the French and Asian restaurants were very busy, my clients love them. The menus across the resort tend to lean healthy if that’s what you’re looking for which is nice in my opinion, there are plenty of desserts and drinks so I like lighter food until dinner maybe.
Any standouts for dessert or late night?
Matt G: My wife loved the ice cream. I don’t remember it ha, but she does. She says you can find it at Sweets and Salties during the day and at Cafe Paris at night.
What is there to do at the resort?
Matt G: Besides the beach and pool, there’s plenty. Scuba diving for certified divers, with a class available if you want to learn. Snorkeling and equipment are included. Hobie Cats for sailing, paddleboards, and sea kayaks, with lessons available at the Water Sports Center. There’s also an underwater vision boat you can sign up for. On land you have tennis, volleyball, chess, bocce ball, and even bowling at Lovers Lanes right on the resort. The fitness center is open 24/7 with drop-in group classes throughout the week. There’s a craft beer bar with 19 international beers, and the Red Lane Spa, where my wife loved the massages.
And the entertainment?
Matt G: Day and night entertainment, including live shows with Calypso, Soca, and reggae bands. There are carnival parties, cultural shows, and a piano bar with sing-alongs every night.
What about excursions off-resort?
Matt G: We did a few. The Shipwreck, Snorkel, and Turtle Swim was excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling the shipwrecks. We also did a full tour of Barbados, which was great for seeing the green monkeys, the coastline, other beaches, and even a windmill. We had a great guide. We visited the Seafood Fiesta at the Wharf, which was fun but extremely crowded. They had the largest lobsters I’ve ever seen. There’s plenty more available too: golf at the Barbados Golf Club, an underwater submarine night tour, a historical Rum Tour, sunset cruises, the Harrison Cave Tram and Nature Walk, botanic gardens, and a four-by-four off-road excursion if you want to get the adrenaline going. Our travel advisors can give you more info and book you in advance if you want, no extra cost.
Any cons worth mentioning?
Matt G: A couple. The water on this side of the island can be rough at times. There’s a swimming area, but when we were there the water was too wavy for some to swim. The good news is you can take a snorkel trip over to the other side of the island where the bay is very calm and the fish are abundant. The other thing is that there was a time or two when we didn’t ask our butlers to escort us to a restaurant, and we should have. The wait was noticeable. If we’d asked the butlers, they would have gotten us right to a table. Pretty nitpicky stuff, but this is also why it’s great to have a travel advisor who’s stayed there, they know all these things, we’ll learn about what’s most important to you and make sure you’re getting the best fit with a room and resort so you have the perfect vacation. It’s a lot of money to travel to these places, so we want to make sure you’re getting the absolute most out of it.
Who is this suite best for?
Matt G: Anybody who likes to feel special! This isn’t a room you’re going to find in your neighborhood, and probably not even in your state or even country. It’s a rare room setup with the pool on the balcony! The views are breathtaking, and it has romance written all over it. I’d recommend it to any couple who wants one of the most memorable suites Sandals offers.
Would you go back?
Matt G: Definitely. Sandals Royal Barbados is a great resort with excellent pools, a great beach, and great rooms across the board, from the swim-up rooms to the Rondovals with private pools to the Sky Pool Suites. They’re all pretty amazing.
