All-Inclusive Expert Susie Christensen has personally visited every Sandals and Beaches resort and has spent extensive time at Sandals Montego Bay. She recently stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Butler Suite and sat down to share her thoughts. The walkthrough video above is from her stay.
Where exactly is this room located, and what’s the location like day to day?
Susie C: It’s in Bay Rock Cottage 5, and that’s the only place you’ll find these rooms. What’s great about it is that it’s centrally located, almost the exact middle of the resort. The front side, you walk straight out to the beach and the ocean, just a couple steps out. And then if you walk around the backside, some of the more popular restaurants, like Butch’s and Soy, are right there. So it’s easy access to everything.
What about the pools?
Susie C: The pools are not right there, but still not that far, maybe a five-minute walk. And a new main pool is currently being built, so that could change things.
Anything else about the location that stood out?
Susie C: One thing I really liked is that when you’re coming in from the beach, there’s an outdoor shower right outside the room. So you can rinse the sand off before you go in, which is a nice touch.
Overall, how was it staying in this room?
Susie C: Oh, this room was amazing. The thing I loved most is that you walk right out the room and you’re on the beach. Our butlers would reserve chairs for us right outside, so if I needed to run back in for something it was like a couple seconds to be in and out. We could also use our own bathroom instead of having to walk to a public bathroom on the other side of the beach.
It was just so easy. You could get up in the morning, go out to the beach, have your butler bring breakfast to your patio, zip over and eat, and be right back in your chairs. And being centrally located meant easy access to the rest of the resort too.
We were celebrating an anniversary, and the butlers filled the tub, had it decorated, candles going, romantic music and lighting. We came home from dinner having no idea they’d set it all up. That kind of thing is hard to put into words.
How were your butlers?
Susie C: Having butlers is a huge plus. They reserve your chairs at the pool or the beach in the morning, bring any meals that you want. They would show up on the beach with snacks, and they knew our favorite drinks, they would bring those to us on a regular basis without even asking.
Above and beyond?
Susie C: You can request any premium liquor in a butler room, and the butlers would go above and beyond. Sometimes if we wanted something that wasn’t available, I’ve even had them go to the store and get it and bring it back to us, which is pretty amazing. I don’t know that they’re always able to do that when they’re busy but they try to do whatever they’re able to make everything perfect.
I have my favorite butlers at this resort that we have had the pleasure of using over 3 different stays, and I would definitely request them again. Where does this room fall price-wise at Sandals Montego Bay?
Susie C: This is a high-end butler room. I would put it in the top five most premium room categories at the resort.
Does it ever go on sale?
Susie C: Occasionally it can come up in the weekly promotions. I watch those closely, and if you’ve already booked this room with me and a deal comes along that applies, I’ll get you the lower price. You don’t have to worry about tracking that yourself, it’s something I do for my clients.
And if someone’s worried about it selling out?
Susie C: The best bet if you want this room, or are even just thinking about it, is to put a refundable deposit down. It holds the room and locks in your price, so if the price goes up later you’re protected. And it’s refundable up until 46 days before your arrival date, so there’s really no risk in securing it early.
Is this a quiet room?
Susie C: It is fairly quiet. There are walkways on the side and in the back, but it didn’t bother us much.
What about the rest of the interior, the bathroom and minibar?
Susie C: The bathroom is a huge area. There’s a dual-control walk-in rain shower with a bench, a soaking tub for two, and two sinks so each person has their own, which is always nice. There’s a door to separate the closet, pocket doors that separate the living room and bedroom from the bathroom, and the toilet has its own separate door as well.
And the minibar?
Susie C: In a butler room you can have premium liquor stocked. We always request rum cream for our coffee in the morning and coconut rum. There’s also wine, beer, gin, vodka, bourbon, rum, champagne, juices, sodas, and water. And you can request anything you want, that’s one of the privileges of a butler room.
Who would you say this room is perfect for?
Susie C: I highly recommend the butler rooms in general, but this one specifically is great for anyone who really wants to be on the beach. You’re literally steps away, it doesn’t get more convenient than that. It’s also perfect for couples celebrating something special, an anniversary, a honeymoon, anything like that. The butlers really go above and beyond for those occasions.
I would also say this room is an excellent option for anyone with mobility issues. The resort is very flat, the sidewalks are paved throughout, there are elevators, and the lower level rooms are very easy to get in and out of.
Anything else to say about the room?
Susie C: It’s one of the best rooms for a luxury all-inclusive experience at Sandals Montego Bay, and there are only four of them, so if it’s in your budget I would not hesitate.
What is Sandals Montego Bay like?
Susie C: There is so much to love about this resort. On the dining side, there are 21 options between the two resorts, and they’re still adding more as part of the current remodel. All of these rooms are being redone right now as well.
Two resorts?
Susie C: Yes, there’s a free shuttle that runs continuously between Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean, the sister property, just a five-minute ride. So you have access to everything at both resorts, all included. You can also take a boat over to the private island at Royal Caribbean, which has a pool, a restaurant, and a big beach area. It’s a great way to spend a day.
Back to Sandals Montego Bay, what else do you like about the resort?
Susie C: The overwater bar is awesome. You go out in the evening, sit around the bar in little hammocks over the water, watch the sunset, and they bring drinks right to you. Montego Bay also has an overwater chapel for weddings, which is stunning.
The cabanas are really cool too. There are four of them out over the water, you actually walk into the water and climb a ladder up into them. They come with a decorated bed, a cooler, any drinks you want, and butlers for the day. They’re fairly inexpensive, around $140 for a full day, and you can also do a half day. For anyone not in a butler room it’s a great way to get a taste of that experience.
The spa is awesome at this resort. We’ve had massages almost every time we go and they do an excellent job. You can have it done outside or inside the spa, whichever you prefer.
What about tipping and transfers?
Susie C: There’s no tipping at Sandals except for butlers, spa personnel, and your airport transfer drivers. And with the butler rooms you get private airport transfers included, so you’re taken care of from the moment you land.
