A Real Review: Sunchi Beachside Club Level Room (BC)

Sandals Royal Curaçao

Our All-Inclusive Experts have stayed at Sandals Royal Curaçao many times, and today Susie is sharing an up-close look at one of the best luxury-to-value balanced rooms at the resort. Watch the walkthrough video here, then see below for her honest review of the Sunchi Beachside Oceanview Club Level Room (room code BC). You can also ask her questions directly!

In the local Papiamentu language, “sunchi” means “a kiss.” And we think these rooms are a great place to kiss! *insert eyeroll emoji here* These beachside rooms are romantic, though, and they sit on the upper floors of buildings one through six, right behind the resort’s swimming beach, so you’re about about 60 seconds from the water on foot. Each room has a king-size bed, seating area, fully stocked in-room bar, spa-style bathroom with walk-in rain shower, and a private balcony with beachside views. Club Sandals concierge service is included, with private check-in, room service from 7am to 10pm, and access to the Club Sandals Lounge.

There’s no cost to work with us at Creative Travel Brands, we’ll watch the price after you book, and if it drops after you’ve placed your *REFUNDABLE* deposit, we’ll work to get you the lower rate. Read on for Susie’s full review of the BC room at Sandals Royal Curaçao.

Real Review: Sunchi Beachside Club Level (BC) at Sandals Royal Curaçao

Susie Christensen, All-Inclusive Expert at Creative Travel Brands

All-Inclusive Expert Susie Christensen has personally visited every Sandals and Beaches resort and has spent extensive time at Sandals Royal Curaçao. She has stayed in the Sunchi Beachside Club Level Room and put together this honest review. Everything you see in the video above is from her stay in the Sunchi Beachside Club room.

Where are the BC rooms located, and what’s it like staying in this room?

Susie C: There are six buildings, and the BC rooms are on the upper floors. They’re right behind the resort’s swimming beach, so you walk downstairs and you’re on the beach in about 60 seconds. Depending on which building you’re in, some of them are close to the main pool, the entertainment, all the action. Others are at the far end, which is quieter, more of a private feel. I have clients who specifically request both. It just depends on what you’re looking for. You should know that not all of them are directly facing the water, beachside in this case means beside the beach, but I can help you get the best ones with the best views if you book with me, you can see my view in a picture I included here.

Can you actually request a specific building?

Susie C: We put in a request to the right people, it’s not guaranteed, and that goes for any travel agency, but Sandals is pretty good about honoring our requests since we know a lot of them at the resort and Creative Travel Brands books a lot of clients there and we have a lot of CRCs. I send a personal note to the sales manager and resort managers, two weeks before arrival reminding them of the requests. That’s when they usually assign the rooms, so we try to time it. We always want to talk through your preferences ahead of time and figure out which building makes the most sense for you.

What else is nearby these rooms?

Susie C: The pickleball and tennis courts are right behind these buildings, which is a nice perk if that’s your thing. The golf pro shop is also close by. And being up on the higher floors, in the mornings we had parrots and all different colored birds coming right up to the trees outside the balcony. That was a fun bonus.

So you stayed in this room personally. What are we looking at when we walk in the door?

Susie C: It’s pretty straightforward, which honestly is not a bad thing. You walk in and there’s a hallway area with a closet and the minibar. The bathroom is off to the side there too. Then it opens up into the main room, and the whole wall facing the balcony is basically glass, sliding glass door in the middle. It’s open and spacious, king bed, seating area, little coffee table. You can sit there and play cards, have your drinks. The balcony has two chairs and a table, plenty of room out there, and there’s a drying rack for swimsuits which is something you actually use every day.

What about the bathroom?

Susie C: Single sink, walk-in rain shower. It’s a spa-style bathroom, really nice. The shower has a glass window into the bedroom. A lot of people really like that, it kind of spices things up, but it is fogged across the middle so it’s not like too crazy, haha. And the resort itself is just bright and colorful, all the rooms are modern and updated. It’s one of the newest Sandals properties so everything feels fresh and clean and new.

This is a club level room. Can you break down what that actually means for someone who’s not familiar with how Sandals tiers work?

Susie C: Sure. So the introductory levels are luxury and premium rooms. Those come with beer, wine, soft drinks, water, and juices in the room. The next step up is club level, which has all of that plus sparkling wine and hard liquor in the room. Club also comes with room service from 7 in the morning until 10 at night. And then there’s the Club Sandals Lounge, which is nice, because when you check in and check out, you do it through the club lounge, you don’t have to go through the front desk. It’s more private, they walk you to your room, tell you about the amenities. And if you need anything throughout your stay, dinner reservations, spa, excursions, whatever, there’s somebody there from 7 in the morning till 10 at night. They’ve also got little libraries in there if you want to borrow books, a game room, snacks, drinks. The Sunchi Beachside Club Level, BC room, is Club level as the name says.

Is it worth stepping up to club level over a standard luxury room?

Susie C: We really recommend getting to club level if you can, because of the in-room dining and the club lounge. The added perks are worth it, in our opinion, but of course you have to look at the prices of what specific rooms and dates you’re comparing so if you tell us what you’re thinking about, we can look at those numbers and advise you on whether it’s worth the upgrade for the price. It’s hard to advise people without getting to know them a little bit, but in a lot of cases, like with the Sunchi Beachside rooms, they also come with a better location within the resort as opposed to the lower level rooms, so that’s also a factor. It’s really something we walk through on a case by case basis with our clients to make sure they’re not paying for an upgrade that isn’t worth it, or if there is one that is worth it for their situation, we can explain why we think it’s worth it and let them decide.

And then the top level of course are butler rooms, which come with two butlers that will do anything you need throughout your stay, reserving pool and beach chairs, premium liquor, 24-hour room service. But the BC is a great middle ground if butler level isn’t in the budget.

If someone wanted to upgrade from the Sunchi Beachside Club Room, what would you point them toward within Sandals Royal Curaçao?

Susie C: A lot of clients want a walkout room, where they can just walk right out into a garden area, or be closer to the beach. That would be a smart upgrade. Or some have a better view. And then beyond that there’s the swim-ups, which have a little pool that runs along the base of the building, shared with other swim-up rooms, but the way the buildings are oriented there’s usually a semi-private area right in front of your room. We talked through the pros and cons of swim-up shared pools on the KB page if you want more on that. (Kurason Island Poolside Butler Bungalow With Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub (KB))

Any advice on timing, pricing, or availability for these rooms?

Susie C: There are between 30 and 40 of these rooms at the resort, so availability is better than some of the more limited room types, but they do sell out. April in particular goes pretty fast. The price range is wider than you might expect, anywhere from around $900 a night up to close to $1,500 on the more popular dates like Christmas and New Year’s. If you’re flexible on dates, that’s where we can really help, because we know where the lower rates are. These also go on the 777 sale fairly regularly, and if you’ve booked with Creative Travel Brands, and it goes on sale, we’ll catch that and can usually get you the lower rate. You don’t have to watch it yourself.

For someone considering the Sunchi Beachside Club Level Room, what should they know about Sandals Royal Curaçao as a resort?

Susie C: It’s one of the newest resorts in the Sandals brand, so everything is just really modern, clean, updated. You really can’t go wrong. Even the entry-level rooms are very nice. It’s a good size too, big enough that you can find a quiet spot to sit with your partner and not feel like you’re on top of other people, but small enough that you can walk five minutes and be at the pool or the beach. And they have bikes spread throughout the property you can just hop on and ride if you don’t feel like walking.

What about the dining options at Sandals Curaçao?

Susie C: There are eleven dining options, eight of which are exclusive to Sandals Royal Curaçao. And then there are three food trucks right on the beach, traditional Curaçao fare, American, and Asian fusion. So there’s a lot of variety. The food trucks are fun, very casual, great for a quick lunch between the beach and the pool, but it’s also, like, high quality amazing food, not like a food truck back home, haha.

What else stands out about Sandals Royal Curaçao?

Susie C: The swimming beach is protected by a pier and a lot of fish gather at the base of it, so people bring their own gear and snorkel out there during the day. You can also just sit on the beach and watch the yachts and boats go up and down the canal, which is really fun. There’s also a world-class golf course right next to the resort, Old Quarry Golf Course, which gets voted number one in the Caribbean somewhat often depending on the year and the list.

Is Curaçao worth exploring beyond the resort?

Susie C: Absolutely. It’s a Dutch overseas territory so it has a very European feel, very safe, very clean. The downtown area, Willemstad, is just a really pretty, vibrant, fun town. All the buildings are different colors, there are murals everywhere. A lot of people will rent a car or Jeep for the day and go explore. You can see flamingos in the wild on the other side of the island, and there are shipwrecks you can snorkel and dive to with lots of fish. There’s around 20 excursions available through the resort if you’d rather have something organized. Honestly it’s one of those destinations where you could stay on the resort the whole time and be perfectly happy, or you could spend every afternoon exploring and never run out of things to see. I love it there!
