The Rondoval is unlike anything else Sandals offers. These round, standalone villas are tucked into the lush gardens of Sandals South Coast, surrounded by flowering trees and tropical greenery, with direct access to the resort’s river pool just off your patio. Inside, soaring conical ceilings, a king-size bed, a full living area, and a private plunge pool sanctuary make this feel more like a private villa than a hotel room. Butler service and 24-hour in-room dining are included, so your two butlers handle everything from restaurant reservations to stocking the bar exactly how you want it.

All-Inclusive Expert Carol Garton has spent extensive time at Sandals South Coast. She recently stayed in the Swim-Up Butler Rondoval Villa and shared her honest thoughts below. The walkthrough video above is from her stay.
This is one of your favorite resorts. What do you like so much about Sandals South Coast and the RSUP room?
Carol G: It was actually the very first Sandals we visited in Jamaica, and since that first trip we’ve gone back several times because we like it so much. Probably the main reason is that it’s very quiet and secluded, on a beautiful bay with that warm Caribbean blue water. And the nature around it is just absolutely spectacular, all the flowers and the trees and the blooming bushes. It’s also one of our top-selling resorts, which says a lot.
Where exactly is the Rondoval located on the property?
Carol G: They’re centrally located behind the main buildings on the west side of the property, sitting back on their own private river pool. About a two-minute walk to the beach. It’s a large resort, but honestly it’s not a very far walk to anything. They have a boardwalk out front so you can walk to just about any place on the resort from there. And the walks themselves are beautiful.
Describe the room itself what is it like when you walk in.
Carol G: Well, first of all, just being outside it is something special. It’s just surrounded by the most lush flowers and trees and flowering bushes. When we stayed there, we had a night-blooming jasmine right at our front door, and every evening coming back in we could smell it. They can be found around the resort but we felt very lucky to have one right there.
And inside, what exactly is a rondoval villa?
Carol G: The Rondovals are round buildings, so the interior has very high ceilings with that cone shape, and it just makes it feel very airy and open and spacious. As you walk in it feels like a much larger room than it probably really is. Not like you’re in a hotel room at all. There’s a king-size bed, a good-sized sitting area with a couch, a chair, table and chairs, and a big TV. And all these big windows let in so much light, you can see all the flowers and greenery outside. When you want privacy, there are wooden Venetian blinds you can close. Very modern, very clean lines, beautiful tile and etched glass throughout.
What about the bathroom space?
Carol G: The bath area is very large and pretty luxurious. It has a freestanding bathtub with a skylight above it, which I just love. It genuinely feels like a spa in there. Long double sink, separate shower, separate toilet area, a big closet, bathrobes and slippers, and a safe for your valuables. Plenty of room for everything. The shower is so nice you can access it from the private pool area so you don’t have to go inside and walk around to rinse off.
And the bar situation?
Carol G: When you arrive the fridge is stocked with water, drinks, and beer, and there’s premium liquor and wine already in the room. But you can ask your butlers to stock it with whatever you want. If you only drink white wine, they’ll put that in there. If you want a specific beer, they’ll take care of it if they can. You just have to ask.
How would you describe the outdoor space with the pools? The pictures are kind of tricky to get a feel for.
Carol G: So when you open the double doors from inside your room, you step right into your own private plunge pool. It’s very private, no one can see you. You can swim around and come right back in. Then beyond that is the patio, which has comfortable lounge chairs, chairs that sit right in the water, and a table where your butlers can bring you breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, whatever you want. And then just past the patio the river pool goes all the way around the Rondoval Village. You can swim it, float it, walk it. My husband swims it and it takes him about 8 minutes to go all the way around. I just grabbed a pool noodle and floated, which was great. There are also curtains on the patio if you want extra privacy.
How private does it actually feel out there?
Carol G: Very. It sits back away from the rest of the resort, which really runs along the beach in front. So it’s a totally different feel than a regular oceanview room. You can’t see your neighbor next to you at all because there’s just so much vegetation, trees, flowering bushes. You can see the villa across from you, but they’re staggered so it’s not like you’re looking right into each other’s space. And again, you’ve got the curtain on the patio if you want to close that off completely. If you reach out to us we can help you request the best specific villas as well based on what you’re looking for.
What about the butler service? For someone who’s never had a butler, what should they expect?
Carol G: Honestly, the first time we had butlers I was nervous they were just going to be in our way the whole time, always in the room or calling us constantly. I realized pretty quickly that was not the case at all. They greet you when you arrive, take you on a quick tour, show you all the amenities, and give you a cell phone so you can call or text them whenever you need something. Right away they’ll ask what restaurants you want to eat at and make all your reservations. They can meet you at the restaurant or come pick you up from your room. They’re just there to make everything seamless so you don’t have to think about anything. They really do an amazing job.
Any tips for getting the most out of butler service, especially for first-timers?
Carol G: You typically get two butlers a day, one on the morning shift and one in the evening. The big things to think about ahead of time are your restaurant reservations and where you want to be at the pool or beach each day, but you also don’t have to decide the whole trip right at the start. They’ll reserve your spots though for you, set up a cooler with whatever drinks you want, and have everything ready for you at the pool or beach. They can bring you coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, wherever you are on the property. And one thing people don’t always realize is that butlers can get you into even the busiest restaurants when other guests can’t. If you’re celebrating something, a birthday, an anniversary, tell them. They’ll set something up for you. Just use them, that’s what they’re there for.
What is there to do at Sandals South Coast beyond the room itself?
Carol G: There’s really a lot. If you’re a certified scuba diver you can go out every day, that’s included. If you’re not certified you can take lessons on-site. Snorkeling is included, all the equipment is there for you. Water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, Hobie cats, paddleboards, kayaks. We loved going out on the Hobie cats. Pickleball is a big one there, they have a lot of courts, it’s a great resort for that. Tennis, fitness center. And the beach is beautiful and long, I’m a walker so I love just going up and down it every day.
What about evenings?
Carol G: There’s entertainment all day, not just at night. They have quieter pools and busier pools with daytime entertainment, so you can choose your vibe. At night there’s always music and live shows, bars, a piano bar. But one of my favorite things is just finding the little pockets around the resort where there are unique artists performing. I’ve heard people playing violin, singing, performing local Jamaican music. It’s really romantic and special.
What about leaving the resort for excursions?
Carol G: There’s a lot you can do. We typically use Island Routes. They have half-day and full-day options, some of them quite a ways from Sandals South Coast so budget the time. We’ve done Dunn’s River Falls, the dolphin experience, sunset cruises, horseback riding on the beach, catamaran cruises, zip lining, an ATV adventure, a rum tour. Just a huge variety. One thing I’d really suggest is booking excursions in advance through us, because if you wait until you’re at the resort they’re often already booked out and you miss what you wanted to do.
Who is the Sandals South Coast Rondoval Swim-Up Butler Villa best for, and who might it not be right for?
Carol G: I recommend the Rondoval to anyone on some kind of special trip, a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday, vow renewal, or really I guess anyone who wants a very private, secluded experience at Sandals South Coast. In my opinion the Rondoval Swim-Up Butler Villa is more of a once-in-a-lifetime, high-end experience.
That said, it’s not the right fit for everyone. If you really want to be right on the beach with an ocean view, this just isn’t that room. What we sometimes suggest if clients want both is a split-stay, stay half your time in an oceanview room and the other half in a butler rondoval. Best of both worlds. We can help you figure out what makes the most sense for your trip but everyone’s different so we try to get to know folks a bit first, just a quick chat if possible to try to understand more about their style than you can get from an online form.
Final thoughts on Sandals South Coast overall?
Carol G: I just love it. We’ve stayed in all the different areas of the resort and enjoyed every single one of them, but the Rondoval was absolutely my favorite. You cannot beat it. I want to go back again and again. It’s hard to find anything bad to say about this room, I think this room is actually as nice as the Overwater Bungalows, obviously you don’t have the ocean view but you also don’t have the Overwater Bungalow price, either.
