An Honest Look at the Sandals Royal Bahamian, Island Village 1BR Walkout Butler Villa Suite (w/ Private Pool!) After Our Recent Stay

Carol Garton, All-Inclusive Expert at Creative Travel Brands

All-Inclusive Expert Carol Garton has spent extensive time at Sandals Royal Bahamian including two separate visits in the past year. She recently stayed in the East Bay Poolside Walkout and shared her honest thoughts here. The tour video above is from her stay. Feel free to ask her any questions directly using the form below!

Let’s start with location. Where on the resort are these villas?

Carol G: It’s set back about the center of the resort, behind the East Bay building, in the Island Village. The villas sit in a very lush tropical garden full of trees, bushes, and flowers, so you get the utmost privacy. It’s also a very short walk to the beach and all the amenities, close to the Red Lane Spa, the pickleball courts, the quiet pool, and the restaurants and bars. To me, this villa with its private pool felt like a home away from home. You’re a short walk to everything but also in a secluded world of your own.

How private is it really?

Carol G: Very. The patio is enclosed and fenced, and it’s surrounded by lots of vegetation. It feels completely secluded from the rest of the resort, even though you’re really in the center of it. If you want peace and quiet, and a place to go to relax without seeing anyone else…this is perfect for you, and again, when you’re ready to go to the big pool or the beach or whatever, it’s all just a short walk away, like a couple minute walk is all. It’s maybe one of the most private room/villa setups I’ve seen at an all-inclusive. Very quiet and peaceful.

Our super private, fenced in "back yard" with loungers and private plunge pool. Heaven!

The private plunge pool is kind of the headline feature is it really that big of a deal?

Carol G: You’d be amazed how often you’re in and out of it, especially in the hot afternoons or even after dinner, after being all dressed up but before bed. It’s SO nice to have it right there. The private pool is just outside the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors from the front room area, out to the patio so it’s literally steps away. The patio is large and fenced in, surrounded by lots of vegetation for privacy, so the pool feels completely your own. It’s very easy to enter, steps and rails, with a waterfall and lounge chairs that rest in the shallow part of the water. On the patio there’s a comfy couch, a Tranquility Soaking Tub for two with privacy curtains, and a table and chairs so you can have your butler bring you lunch or snacks or breakfast… whatever you want. The whole space has a very zen vibe.

Did you spend a lot of time out there?

Carol G: With the soaking tub, the couch, the private pool, and the bistro table and chairs area, you can really spend all day on the patio if you want to just escape it all and relax. The butlers can bring you anything from the in-room dining menu, and there’s a fully stocked bar inside if you just want to grab a drink and step back out. It’s bliss.

Inside the villa, what does it look like?

Carol G: The villa has a king-size bed in sort of it’s own bedroom area that’s very comfortable, like every bed at Sandals to be honest. There are large windows with Venetian blinds so you can have lots of light or close them for lots of privacy, which I appreciated. The two side tables have down-hanging lights for reading, which I love because I’m a reader. There’s a tall mirror on the wall, I kind of need that for getting ready. The closet is plenty large with a safe of course.

And then there’s another seating area and TV?

Carol G: Yeah, so there’s a separate seating area kind of like a small dining/living room area with comfortable chairs and a table, plus a big-screen HD Smart TV… all that kind of leads out to the patio area. If you want to sit separate from the bedroom for a while and enjoy a TV show or read a book overlooking the patio but not out in the heat, it’s a great spot. Though, I will say that area is kind of small, it’s not like a full indoor living room, I think it’s kind of meant to be paired with the outdoor area and to keep some separation between the bedroom and another TV and dining area. It’s more for function, vs relaxing, that room is, but it’s great to have so you’re not eating on your bed or if you want to eat inside out of the heat, or watch something and still be near the pool.

How’s the bathroom area?

Carol G: I’ve seen a lot of styles and layouts at different all-inclusives, and in this suite it’s actually beautiful, I’m not exaggerating check out my pictures. There’s a VERY large stone tiled walk-in rain shower, a long sink for two with a backlit mirror, and a makeup mirror, which I always like. Red Lane Spa toiletries so you can leave your shampoo at home, it’s good high-quality stuff, but just look at the style and design, it’s like a spa. It makes you feel confident before you even leave your room for dinner or the beach.

What does butler service get you here, and the airport transfer, does your butler pick you up?

Carol G: You get a lot! The butlers are included, and they’ll pamper you as much or as little as you want. We enjoy having the option for special things like dinner reservations at busy restaurants, or setting up a spot at the beach with our own cooler full of our chosen drinks. You also have 24-hour in-room service, which is great. After a day at the beach or pool we always enjoy a light snack, and the butlers will gladly bring it whenever you’d like.

Carol G: The villa includes a private luxury transfer to and from the airport. No it’s not your butlers specifically, but you’re not on a bus with other people, it’s just for you and your party, which is a nice way to start and end the trip. They’re chauffeur-driven luxury private cars. .

How was the dining at Sandals Royal Bahamian?

Carol G: For the foodies out there, Sandals Royal Bahamian has 10 specialty restaurants with everything from sushi and Japanese to Italian, international, French, seafood, and steak. My favorites are Butch’s Island Chophouse and La Plume French Restaurant. La Plume is uniquely stylish inside, and it was our favorite place to have breakfast. It was excellent. Heads up though, depending on the time of year, you may want to sit back away from the windows because those booths get warm.

What about the food trucks?

Carol G: There are two food trucks, and we went every single day. One had great coffee, great desserts, and ice cream. The other had great cuisine for lunches. I’d suggest anyone try them out.

The dual-control walk-in rain shower in the VPP villa bathroom. Large, marble-tiled, and spacious enough for two. You know... for efficiency.

What was there to do on the resort and around the island?

Carol G: There’s always something to do here. Swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, diving if you’re certified, or lessons on-site if you’re not. We enjoy kayaking and sailing on nice days, and the pickleball is popular right now. There are also tennis courts, and for less strenuous activities you have bocce ball, lawn chess, table tennis, and horseshoes. You can always jump in the pool for a game of pool volleyball too.

Tell us about Barefoot Cay.

Carol G: Barefoot Cay is the private offshore island, only about 5 minutes away by boat, and it leaves every day at 10 a.m. Honestly, it’s what makes this resort unique. It was such a surprise when we got there and went over. There’s a great restaurant on the island with wonderful food, and Red Lane Spa offers massages. There’s a botanic spa garden you can walk through, a pool, a whirlpool, and a very private beach with lots of places to lay in the sun. You can snorkel right off the beach. It just feels like you’re in a totally different world.

What about excursions off the resort?

Carol G: We use Island Routes for tours. They do an excellent job, and you can book directly through our agents for the best dates and times. One couple in our group swam with the pigs and said it was great fun, I’m not sure if that’s my thing though haha. We’ve done the Sunset Catamaran cruises and snorkeling. The water in the Bahamas is unbelievable, the most beautiful water you’ve ever seen. There’s also ziplining, ATVs, and swimming with dolphins. Lots of great experiences around the Bahamas.

Any romantic add-ons worth knowing about?

Carol G: If it were me and I were looking for romance, I’d book a candlelight dinner on the beach. It’s a great opportunity to look out at the Caribbean, watch the sunset, and have dinner with your loved one. One of my favorite things is a couple’s massage at Red Lane Spa. And if you’re going for the first time, make sure you get your pictures taken on the beach at sunset. It’s absolutely beautiful.

How does this room price?

Carol G: This suite is among the priciest at Sandals Royal Bahamian, one of the top handful of rooms on the resort from a price perspective. It occasionally goes on promotion. Like all rooms at Sandals, it’s all-inclusive, and this suite includes a butler and private luxury airport transfers.

Who is this room really for?

Carol G: This is a room for somebody who wants lots of privacy and likes to be away from the crowds, honeymooners, or anyone celebrating a special anniversary. It wouldn’t be great for someone who likes to be close to the lively pools or wants an ocean view. But if you want peace and tranquility and a more quiet setting, love the idea of your own private plunge pool, this is the villa for you.

What about weddings?

Carol G: Sandals Royal Bahamian is a great location for a wedding. There’s a spectacular overwater chapel with a 360-degree view of the Caribbean, or you can get married on the beach at sunset. It’s a perfect location for that special day, and one of our wedding specialists can help you plan.

Final thoughts?

Carol G: We’ve been there twice this last year and I’m going back. The short flight from Miami, the butlers, the white sand beach, the private island. It all just works. This villa in particular is very romantic and intimate, tucked into a lush garden full of flowers and palms, private and quiet with its own plunge pool. It has a romantic, private vibe that’s hard to beat.
