Honest Review: Island Village One Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with Private Pool (V1PP)

Carol Garton, All-Inclusive Expert at Creative Travel Brands

All-Inclusive Expert Carol Garton has stayed at Sandals Royal Bahamian twice in the last nine months and knows the resort well. The walkthrough video above is from her most recent stay. Feel free to ask her any questions directly using the form below!

What’s your first impression walking into the V1PP?

Carol G: I really enjoy that it’s a ground-floor villa, so it’s very easy to walk right out to your private pool, and I love all the flowers and vegetation around you, it feels like you’re in your own world. The room itself is cozy with an open-concept sitting area and a really comfy couch, one of the two flat-screen TVs is in that open area and the second is in the bedroom. There’s a fully stocked bar with premium liquor, and your butler will keep you in whatever drinks you like, I always ask for a Merlot or a chilled wine to sip by the pool in the evening, and my favorite is a frozen strawberry daiquiri during the day. One tip, bring your own insulated cup and the bartenders will fill it so your drink stays cold.

How about the rest of the suite?

Carol G: The bedroom is very large, with a king-size bed, a good-sized closet with a safe, and a dresser, plenty of room for your clothes, plus robes and slippers, which are great when you get out of the pool. The bathroom is really nice, a very long sink for two, a dual-shower-head walk-in, and wonderful backlit mirrors, I love good lighting in a bathroom. After a long day in the sand I really enjoy coming in for a long hot shower. And all the rooms have Red Lane Spa amenities, shampoo, cream rinse, body wash, they smell great, I never bring my own.

Are drinks free at Sandals Royal Bahamian?

Carol G: Yes. This is a butler room, so the bar is fully stocked with premium liquor and your butler will supply any drinks you prefer during your stay, they’ll bring you tropical drinks whenever you want, all you have to do is ask. You can enjoy a nice Merlot or a chilled wine out by the pool in the evening, or have breakfast with a mocha latte by your own private pool in the morning. It’s all included, and with 24-hour room service you can get anything delivered, even an evening snack.

What’s the private pool area like, and how private is it really?

Carol G: You have access to the private plunge pool right outside the large sliding glass door from the bedroom, and the patio is very big, with a Tranquility soaking tub for two, two lounge chairs, a table and chairs. You can ask the butlers to fill the soaking tub after a day at the pool or a long excursion, sometimes they surprise you and have it ready when you get back, once they even spread rose petals around it. And it’s very private, this villa sits way back from the front of the resort with a privacy fence all around the pool area and lots of greenery, I couldn’t see or hear any neighbors at the pool or in the room. The plunge pool is one of my favorites because of all the tropical flowers and trees around it, it’s very romantic.

What’s the view, and where does the villa sit?

Carol G: There really isn’t a beach or ocean view, because it sits back in the center of the resort in the Island Village, it’s only a few minutes’ walk to the beach, but the whole idea of this villa is privacy for a romantic vacation, so the view is really your pool and all the tropical flowers, bushes, and trees around it. It’s very quiet and relaxed, not a lot of people walking by. One thing to understand, this is a villa within a building, several villas inside a building, not a separate stand-alone villa, but your patio and pool are fenced and full of greenery, so they feel very private and separate.

Is Sandals Royal Bahamian a good resort?

Carol G: It’s a beautiful resort. The Bahamas have, in my opinion, the most beautiful water and beaches in the Caribbean, aqua-blue water and soft white sand, even the Duke and Duchess of Windsor used it as their favorite getaway. The Island Village feels very quaint, and one of the best parts is a big surprise when you get there, their own private island called Barefoot Cay, just five minutes by boat. We spent a lot of time there, a private beach with room to spread out, no crowds, great swimming and snorkeling right off the sand, the Aralia House grill with lots of Caribbean flavors and fresh fish, a large pool with cabanas, and an open-air Red Lane Spa. The people were so friendly, our butlers were amazing, and getting there is easy, the airport is only about 15 minutes away and with this room you get a private transfer in a luxury car, often a Rolls-Royce, which is a real treat, mine even had a massage feature in the seat.

Is Sandals Royal Bahamian worth it?

Carol G: I’d say this is one of the more exquisite suites, it sits 4th from the top of 33 room categories and is currently averaging around $922 per person per night depending on when you go, and Sandals runs sales off and on that can lower that. There’s something for everybody, I like to read a book by the beach or pool, but if you’re adventurous there’s sailing, snorkeling, diving, kayaks, windsurfing, pickleball with lighted courts for night play, croquet, beach volleyball, basketball, and lawn chess. There are 7 pools and 5 whirlpools, 8 bars, and 12 restaurants, we loved the French restaurant for breakfast and Butch’s for steak and seafood, and Sandals uses local Caribbean produce where they can, farm to table. At night there’s everything from live shows and beach parties to a saxophonist and a piano bar. It’s a great value for what you get.

Who is the V1PP best for?

Carol G: It’s best for a couple who wants privacy, a honeymoon or anniversary, something special where you like to be away from other people. You enjoy the beach and the pools, but you like to come back to your own private plunge pool and total seclusion. It does sit back from the beach, so if you want an ocean or beach view this wouldn’t be the one, but if you want a romantic, private retreat, it’s perfect. I really like the Bahamian vibe, and we will definitely go back.

Carol G: I’d be happy to request the best villa, set up your luxury transfer and a day on Barefoot Cay, and find the best-priced dates for your trip. Just give me a call.
