Honest Review: East Bay Honeymoon Beachfront Butler Suite (BP)

Susie Christensen, All-Inclusive Expert at Creative Travel BrandsAll-Inclusive Expert Susie Christensen has personally visited every Sandals and Beaches resort including Sandals Royal Bahamian (multiple times). She knows the resort inside and out. She stayed in the East Bay Honeymoon Beachfront Suite on her latest stay and shared her honest review of the room. You can ask her questions directly below.

Where exactly are the East Bay Honeymoon Beachfront Butler Suites located, and what’s the location like?

Susie C: This room is a penthouse suite, located in the East Bay building on the top floors. It’s the building on the far east side of the resort, and it’s as close to the beach as you can get, no joke. We were in and out of this room with our friends while we enjoyed the resort, and being at the very end of the resort makes it feel very private.

What’s nearby?

Susie C: The beach and the large, quiet pool are right next to the East Bay building. There’s also a lively pool not too far down the beach by the West Bay building if you prefer music and pool games. The restaurants are very close to the suite, as are the two food trucks. We visited the food trucks every morning for lattes, one has great coffee and light breakfast foods, and the other has Caribbean cuisine.

The king-size bed in the BP suite, framed by large end tables and the wall-to-wall sliding glass doors that open right out to the balcony. This room seriously looks just like the Sandals website, it's so beautiful. This is my picture.

How does the room feel inside?

Susie C: When you enter the room, it is such a fun surprise. It is so bright and colorful. The room is decorated with lovely and tasteful white walls and soft pink wallpaper with a palm design, it feels so Caribbean. The king-size bed has end tables next to it, very modern, with white and pink accents throughout the room. There’s a padded bench at the foot of the bed, and a soft and clean rug underneath the bed which was very nice when you step onto the cool tile. Some of the East Bay Beachfront Suites have have a pink theme and some are blue.

What about the bathroom area?

Susie C: The bath is just off of the hallway. There’s a large closet with a dresser in that area, and a safe for your personal belongings, and his and her robes and slippers, which sometimes people forget about or don’t notice, but I really like when I come in from the beach or while getting ready for dinner. There are two separate sink areas, both with pink marble countertops. One has a lighted mirror as well as a makeup mirror. The shower area is large with dual shower heads, glass doors, and a splash of modern pink tile. Everything is supplied with Red Lane Shampoo, cream rinse, body wash, and lotion, and the whole area is fully stocked with fluffy white towels.

Is the room bright or can you darken it?

Susie C: The room is bright, but it has blackout curtains and sheers to keep the sun at bay when you need them or if you want to sleep in. There’s also a sitting area next to the glass doors, a flat screen TV, excellent air conditioning, and a fan over the bed. The suite is open and very cozy, very romantic has everything you need but the views are really what make it awesome.

Yeah, so tell us about the views from the East Bay Building balconies.

Susie C: When you walk into the beachfront room, you see why this is such a special suite. The view is spectacular. You look straight out at the Caribbean through wall-to-wall sliding glass doors that lead out to the balcony. The balcony is large enough for a table and chairs, and the ocean view is spectacular. You get a view of the private island, Barefoot Cay, and this specific room overlooked the overwater wedding chapel, the beach, and the Caribbean. If you look down the balcony to the main floor, there are swim-up rooms, so there’s a nice long pool that extends across the entire building.

What’s it like sitting out there?

Susie C: When we first sat down on the balcony, I couldn’t get over how well we could hear the waves splashing onto the beach. It just felt peaceful and calm. It made me smile. You could ask your butlers to bring you coffee or breakfast, and eat right on your balcony overlooking the Caribbean. You can feel the breeze coming up off the ocean, and the water just stretches out forever from up there. It’s a super wide left to right view if that makes sense… nothing obscures it.

How does the butler service work in this room?

Susie C: This room comes with personal butler service, which I have always enjoyed in every room we’ve stayed in where we’ve had butlers. You get two butlers per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. They greet you when you check in and help you with anything you need during your stay. We’ve just always had great experiences with the butlers, and we’d recommend them to everyone. I totally think it’s worth it.

Any tips on tipping?

Susie C: There are no tips at Sandals Resorts except for butlers and the spa staff, and both are very deserving of tips. We also tip when we go on excursions, and we tip our airport transfer drivers a little bit as well. People do it differently, but we generally jot down in our phone who we have each day and sort of assign a 1-3 number of how much we used them, or if they go above and beyond. We give them a baseline amount for each shift and if they go above and beyond on a shift or two, we’ll add to it. They work hard and really do enhance your vacation. Then we’ll give them the tip at the end of the trip.

Where does this room fall in price at Sandals Royal Bahamian?

Susie C: It’s one of the best rooms at a great resort, and the all-inclusive price is actually quite good for a honeymoon suite with this view. This room is listed as 11th of 33 room categories for the resort from a price perspective, so it’s solidly premium without being at the very top. Depending on how long and when you stay, you might be able to get a promotion that lowers the rate. If you book with us, there’s no extra cost to you, it’s the same as booking direct and you are actually booking with Sandals, your card will be charged by them, so exactly the same, but then we can help you with things like watching the price after you book and if a promotion comes up after the fact we can try to get it for you. That’s just one of a million things we can do to enhance your trip, but anyway… if you want to walk through other rooms and how they compare to these, we can guide you through that too. There’s really no reason not to work with a travel advisor who’s been there and stayed there.

What makes Sandals Royal Bahamian itself special?

Susie C: I’ve been there multiple times because I really enjoy it. First of all, it’s a short flight over from Miami to the Bahamas, and the resort is always very easy to get around. I really enjoy that the restaurants are very close to the suite, as are the two food trucks we visit every morning for lattes. The entertainment is also great on the resort. The piano bar is one of our favorites. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the tropical flowers and trees are just breathtaking. You cannot beat the Bahamas, the crystal clear blue water and the white sand beaches. Though, it can get a little cooler than some of the other islands in the winter seasons, so pay attention to that if you’re going in Dec-Feb. A lot of people like that, don’t want it to be blazing hot, but some want it as hot as possible for their pool time.

What is Sandals Barefoot Cay, the island…

Susie C: We had a great time on the private island! It’s only a 5-minute boat ride, and it leaves around 10 o’clock every morning then on the hour during the day. The final boat leaves around 4:45. If I were suggesting anything about going over to Barefoot Cay, I would say go early and get a great spot.

What’s there to do once you’re on the island?

Susie C: If you’re a pool person, there’s a great large pool there with a fabulous restaurant. If you like the beach, which I do, you can find a private area to relax on. The snorkeling was great right off the beach, and there was a cool breeze. You could even get a massage at the Red Lane Spa on the island. Barefoot Cay felt so secluded and relaxing, and on the way back, one of the staff members serenaded us. She had a lovely singing voice, and it was so much fun, and just totally unexpected.

What else is there to do at the resort?

Susie C: There are lots of water sports, like sailing on a Hobie Cat, going out on the aqua trike, kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding, and a lot more. If you’re into land sports like pickleball, Sandals Royal Bahamian has four lighted courts and they supply you with great paddles and balls, very quality. You can also get a lesson while you’re there, you want to try to arrange that in advance, I can do that for you if you book with us, or as soon as you check in you can ask your butler about getting a lesson set up.

What about excursions off the resort?

Susie C: There are lots of excursions off the resort, like swimming with the pigs, which sounds crazy but people absolutely love it. You can take a catamaran cruise and snorkeling, walk on the pink sands in Nassau, or take a Nassau City tour. You can snuba, ATV, take a glass-bottom boat, and there’s so much more. Our travel advisors can give you more information on all the excursions and book you for them in advance, because many of them fill up fast. Between us all we’ve been on a lot of excursions.

Who is this room best for?

Susie C: This is an absolutely lovely room, very romantic. I would stay in this room again and again. It’s perfect for couples who want one of the best views at Sandals Royal Bahamian, want to be steps from the beach, listen to the ocean at night, and want the full butler experience. The private balcony, the wall-to-wall sliding glass doors, and the view really set this room apart.

Final thoughts on the suite?

Susie C: This suite itself and the private island and the private transfers to and from the airport to start and finish your trip… you really feel like a VIP in this room. I’m ready to go back!
