The Vincy Overwater Two Story Villa (room code OWV) is one of just 10 overwater villas nestled inside the resort’s private cove, with lush rainforest behind and the ocean out front. It’s a Sandals first, the only two-story overwater villas in the collection. Downstairs is the bedroom, with a lighted glass floor over the marine life below, a bathroom, and a private deck that leads right into the ocean. Upstairs, a covered deck has a hanging day bed, a sitting area, and a telescope for stargazing. There’s also a private garden nook with a soaking tub for two, and at nearly 1,250 square feet, there’s plenty of room for ultimate relaxation. Butler Elite service, 24-hour in-room dining, and Sandals’ first water taxi airport transfer are all part of the experience.

Our Firsthand Honest Review of the Vincy Overwater Two Story Villa at Sandals Saint Vincent
All-Inclusive Expert Susie Christensen has personally visited every Sandals and Beaches resort and has spent extensive time at Sandals Saint Vincent. We recently interviewed her to get her honest review of the Vincy Overwater Two Story Villa and most importantly, whether or not it’s worth the price tag.
Tell us about the Vincy Overwater Two Story Villa at Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. What makes it special?
Susie C: They are beautiful villas. One of the unique things about them is that they’re two-story. Downstairs you’ve got the bedroom, with easy access out to the deck and the ocean from a private deck, so you can get up in the morning, walk down the stairs, and jump right into the ocean. Then be back in your room or shower in a few steps, it’s ridiculous. It’s a great way to wake up! Then upstairs you have a private lounge area and an outdoor covered patio, plus a huge day bed, you could honestly both sleep out there on top of the ocean with the stars. When the occasional rain hits the island, you can still sit out on your balcony, stay covered, and enjoy the ocean and the outdoor area of your room. It’s seriously one of the best layouts of a villa I’ve seen in the Caribbean or the world for that matter.
And you’ve got the glass floors, there’s a glass floor right below the bed. When I’ve stayed in these overwater villas, the cool thing is I’d get up in the night and maybe not falling back to sleep right away so I just sit at the end of the bed looking down through the glass floor to watch the fish. It’s so calming and any anxieties just melt away it’s so relaxing. There are lights you can turn on or off there so you can see them, and sometimes there were more fish at night than in the daytime. It might seem like a small thing but when else can you experience that? a really nice added feature to look right down into the ocean from the comfort of your room.
They look pretty big. How big are they?
Susie C: Oh my gosh, these are like 1,250 square feet, that’s almost the size of my son’s house! So there’s lots of room and plenty of different areas. Some Caribbean villas are nice and look good in pictures but when you get in them they’re cramped and there is no room for your suitcases, not a lot of room to eat butler room service or just watch a football game or whatever… these are not like that at all. There’s a private little spot toward the back of the villa with a shower and tub for two, kind of like a little nook, it’s super romantic and you’re sort of inside and outside at the same time, it’s super unique and a huge highlight.
Does the villa have the usual features, like a kitchen area?
Susie C: There’s a very nice kitchen area with a high-end coffee maker that grinds its own beans, not just like the hotel coffee pod bags. When we stay in these rooms, my husband, who loves coffee, makes all kinds of wonderful coffees in the morning. He always has a bottle of rum cream that the butler brings instead of creamer, and he’ll take his coffee out onto the patio first thing, have a cup, swim in the ocean, come back up, and make another. That coffee maker is a real highlight for him to be honest! Ha. But that’s just kind of the attention to detail that went into this resort and these villas. You see it throughout the place.
When you have a butler room, you can order any type of liquor that’s available on the resort. You’ll get a butler form two weeks before your trip where you can put in your requests. His two favorites to have stocked are rum cream and coconut rum, which he’ll mix with the juices and sodas stocked in your room. So whether you want a high-end vodka or rum, or a bottle of port to sip while you watch the sunset, you can order it from your butler and they’ll bring it to the room. It’s one of the nice perks of a butler category room.
Can you walk us through the layout of the two floors?
Susie C: On the bottom floor there’s a little sitting area at the end of the bed, with two chairs right there where you can look down and watch the fish and other sea animals through the glass floor. That leads right out to the deck area, and the bathroom is downstairs too, it’s spa like and awesome in its own right, along with the back deck that has the tub for two and a little sitting area. There are two very large wooden-frame slider doors that completely open up, and outside you’ve got two loungers plus a little eating area with a table and two chairs. You can have your butler bring you lunch there or snacks, dinner, drinks, whatever you want.
Is the tub on the backside indoors or outdoors?
Susie C: It’s sort of a covered area, but it looks out toward the garden, so it’s very private, but it’s kinda open to the outside too.
And upstairs, there’s a day bed?
Susie C: Yes, there’s a very nice day bed it’s huge! We like to lay around and look out to the ocean, and it’s covered so if it’s rainy… which the storms never last long at all, but it does rain from time to time. You’ve also got a little sitting area up there where you can have a meal, snacks, or drinks and watch the sunset. Plus you’re higher up so the views are so amazing. There’s a telescope so at night you can look at the stars which is just crazy to have, like I said the luxury and attention to detail and uniqueness of these rooms is something special.
Is there a difference between the units? Is one larger than the other?
Susie C: I’m pretty sure they’re all the same, we were just in the one. Every two units are connected, though, so that is something to know, but you still have privacy between them, but you do have a common wall. Some people like that. If I have two couples traveling together who both want this room type, I can request that they be side by side. It’s not guaranteed until check-in, but Sandals does pretty well about honoring our requests. And you really don’t hear anything between them, just the ocean.
How visible is that day bed area from other people?
Susie C: Depending on which unit you’re in, it’s pretty private! I can get the request to the right people if you book with me.
Let’s talk about Sandals Saint Vincent, the resort itself now, tell me about it.
Susie C: It’s actually a bigger resort for Sandals, area wise, but it doesn’t feel that way once you’re walking around, it’s very well designed. It’s pretty much flat and walkable everywhere, which is great, so if accessibility is ever a concern for anyone, this is a good one for that. They’ve also got bikes scattered around the resort, first come first serve, so you can usually grab one if you don’t feel like walking somewhere. Which is super fun in its own right, to cruise around on a bike to get to lunch or the pool! It’s got kind of a Hawaii feel to it honestly, these towering mountains on the sides, and you’ll see the fog roll down over them in the mornings, it’s beautiful. The sunsets off those peaks are gorgeous too. The island has limited tourism and it’s all done with eco-friendlyness (is that the right term?) it’s all been planned to be sustainable and eco-friendly. The Sandals executives literally told me, “we could have made this resort bigger but we had the people and islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in mind as we built this and this was the right size to balance it all.”
As far as pools go, there’s an infinity pool right by the villas that’s just gorgeous, looks right out over the ocean, that one’s very popular for obvious reasons. There’s also a longer pool in the center of the resort with a lot of seating, that one’s popular too, but it is a bit of a walk from the overwater villas if I’m honest, so that’s probably the one downside, you’re not right on top of it, but it’s only like a 5 minute walk to the main pool. Tons of beach chairs and you have a butler so they’ll reserve one for you but it’s never been a problem like at some other resorts when I’ve been there at least. In all there’s four freshwater pools and two whirlpools though, so there’s plenty of pool space it’s never packed like some of them in Cancun or wherever.
It looks like there are some amazing restaurants at Sandals Saint Vincent, what are the options?
Susie C: Now the restaurants, that’s actually one of my favorite things about this resort, there’s 11 total, and most of them sit right between the main part of the resort and the overwater villas, so they’re perfectly located if you’re staying in one of these. You’re not trekking all the way across the resort for dinner. A couple of our favorites, Butch’s Island Chophouse for the surf and turf, my husband loves the steaks there, I love the lobster. Buccan is really unique too, family style, some of it’s cooked in pits in the ground, and the chef comes out and talks to you about what you’re eating, it’s a ton of local or local-inspired dishes and the spices and flavors are so unique… it’s like nothing I’ve ever tasted. And I’m not super adventurous with food, I was kind of skeptical and nervous it’d be a bunch of stuff I didn’t like, I was already planning to call the butler to bring something to the room afterword, but it was SO good and it’s just the perfect balance of foody, trendy, local flavors but also familiar and it was just one of the best meals I’ve had. There’s also great Italian, seafood, sushi, and jerk options, honestly you could eat somewhere different every night and not run out.
I imagine the butler suite comes with an advantage on room service too?
Susie C: It does. With a butler suite you have 24-hour room service, whereas the luxury and club-level rooms here have room service from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. So with a butler, you can eat any time, day or night. We mostly use it for lunch when we’re hanging out in the room or for snacks/appetizers before dinner, but it’s not just room service they can bring you whatever you want at the beach or pool. If you want a late night meal though after going out or whatever, they’ll get it to you right away it’s perfect.
St. Vincent seems like a great place to explore, what excursions are there?
Susie C: It is. There’s 32 Grenadine Islands, which is why it’s called St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and there’s a lot of excursions that take you out to the other islands. We did that when we were there. You get on a catamaran, and it’s a beautiful trip out to one of the other islands, where you can get off and go shopping. There was a little pub and restaurant, and a lady selling local beer on the beach, two for five dollars. We talked with her for like an hour, she was fascinating, told us all about the island and the culture. There’s a lot to explore, so it’s very popular for people who like excursions and getting to know the culture and local style. There’s also an active volcano, and Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed here, so you can actually visit the spot where they filmed it. And it’s a very safe island, hardly any crime at all.
And the villas are right by the dock, so those excursions are easy to reach?
Susie C: They leave right from there, so you’re super close, don’t have to go far at all walk right over.
How do these villas compare to other overwater bungalows and villas in the Caribbean?
Susie C: Honestly, the island itself really sells these villas. It’s such a unique island, a lot of people haven’t been there or even heard of it, so a lot of my clients just want to try it, because they’ve done Jamaica, they’ve done St. Lucia, but never St. Vincent. For a special occasion it’s something different. I just had two clients come back from their anniversary who absolutely loved it, said they’d recommend it to anyone. And these are the only two-story overwater villas out there, so that’s unique in itself, and they’re modern, newly built, only a couple years old since the resort was just redone.
One more thing I can do is request a specific villa, a lot of my clients want the one furthest out because they want to be as far from everybody else as possible, and I’m happy to do that for them. Just ask. It’s not guaranteed, but Sandals is pretty good about honoring requests for our agency Creative Travel Brands, especially the earlier we make them.
So, bottom line, is the villa worth the price tag?
Susie C: 100% yes, it’s worth it. It’s not cheap, I’m not going to pretend it is, but you’re getting something you genuinely can’t get anywhere else in the Sandals collection, or anywhere in the Caribbean, really, not on this type of almost untouched island, not like this… a two-story overwater villa with your own glass floor, your own telescope, the private shower nook, and butlers who basically treat you like the only guests on the resort. If you’re celebrating something big, or you just want an experience instead of a regular room, I think it earns its price tag and it’s honestly a good value. I know that sounds crazy but you get an elite, maybe a $50,000 experience for less (those resorts do exist!). I’ve stayed in other overwater bungalows and these are spectacular within this category for the money.
The cost is the only downside to be honest, these are AMAZING villas, and of course everyone’s budget is different, but I think if you’re able to stretch and do it you won’t be disappointed in the experience. That said, there’s other beautiful villas and suites at this resort for less.
